Romania's army will receive the first portable anti-aircraft missile systems bought from South Korea this year.

Romania becomes the first NATO country to use South Korean air defence systems.

The Ministry of National Defence will receive portable air defence missiles from South Korea, the equivalent of the American Stinger systems. The purchase was made through an intergovernmental agreement. The contract includes 54 Chiron man-portable launchers.

The head of the General Directorate for Armaments, Lieutenant General Teodor Incicas: "We have deliveries for a one-off purchase that we made last year, of portable air defence systems that we bought from the Republic of Korea with rapid delivery and these systems will come in this year."

This procurement project is part of Romania's Strategic Umbrella program, designated for the acquisition of various anti-aircraft systems for the Romanian Army. With this contract, Romania becomes the first NATO country to use South Korean-made air defence systems".
